A WORLD OF COLOR

No new color system. No compromises.

GRASSELLO is the crown jewel of Venetian plaster. A formula that has evolved over centuries, still made in Veneto, Italy the way it always has been.

Applied in thin coats and burnished with a steel trowel, GRASSELLO develops a dense, luminous surface that catches light differently at every angle. The more you work it, the deeper it goes. No two walls are the same.

The result is a finish that looks and feels like genuine stone - because it is. Hard, breathable, and alive in a way no synthetic coating can replicate. Suitable for interior use and high-moisture areas with proper sealing. Applies in 3 coats.

Application
01
Prepare the Surface
Clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove loose material, oil, grease, and dust. Fill irregularities. Prime with Violante PRIMO STRATO. Allow to dry fully before proceeding.
02
First & Second Coats
Apply in thin even layers using natural strokes to avoid choppiness. Work in sections, keeping a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Allow each coat to dry before proceeding. No more than 2 coats in the first 12 hours.
03
Third Coat & Burnish
Apply the final coat very thinly in a similar style to coats 1 and 2. Once partially set, burnish with a clean stainless steel trowel using firm strokes from all directions. Burnishing intensity controls the final level of gloss.
04
Curing
Initial hardness develops in 24–48 hours. True final hardness is achieved through carbonation, as lime reabsorbs CO₂ from air. This natural process continues over several months.

Compatible Surfaces

  • Color may vary slightly between batches. Complete a project using product from the same production lot where possible.
  • For shower or wet area use, allow at least one week for initial curing, then apply 2 coats of a Natural Stone Impregnator or water-based stone sealer.
  • Refer to the GRASSELLO Safety Data Sheet for full handling, PPE, and disposal requirements.

Frequently Asked
GRASSELLO can absolutely be applied by a skilled DIYer. It does have a learning curve compared to regular paint. We recommend practicing on a sample board first, watching application videos, and starting with a low-visibility wall. For large, high-visibility projects or mirror-finish results, a professional applicator will deliver the best outcome.
Yes, priming is essential for adhesion. We recommend Violante PRIMO STRATO, our micro-granular anchor primer formulated specifically for lime plaster application. It creates a textured, bonded base that ensures the plaster locks to the substrate properly. Apply one coat and allow to dry fully before starting your first GRASSELLO coat.
Yes, with the right protection. Allow the plaster to cure for at least one week, then apply 2 coats of a Natural Stone Impregnator or water-based stone sealer. This creates a moisture-resistant surface suitable for bathrooms and wet areas. For direct shower walls with constant water contact, proper sealing is critical.
Properly applied lime plaster is one of the most durable wall finishes available. GRASSELLO actually hardens over time through carbonation, becoming more durable as it ages. With normal care, a well-applied GRASSELLO finish will last the lifetime of the building.
Yes, you can paint over GRASSELLO with standard interior paint once it has fully cured. You can also apply a new coat of GRASSELLO over an existing finish. If you want to change the tinted color, the easiest approach is to apply a fresh coat in the new color directly over the existing finish.
Small repairs can be made by feathering fresh GRASSELLO into the damaged area using the same technique as the original application. For best color matching, use product from the same production batch. New plaster will initially appear slightly lighter and will blend more naturally as it cures and ages alongside the existing finish.
